Education System in Poland

Poland has a long and proud tradition of keeping educational institutions open to students even in difficult times. Have you ever heard of the Flying University of Poland? In the late 1800s, universities were tightly controlled, and women were not allowed to attend. Polish scientists initiated a bold underground movement where classes were taught in secret.

To evade the authorities, these gatherings were organized even in private homes, covering a wide range of subjects from philosophy to mathematics, art to science. To avoid possible exposure, the meetings were frequently relocated from one place to another around Warsaw, earning it the name Flying or Floating University. Nobel Prize laureate Marie Skłodowska Curie is a famous graduate of the Flying University.

These days, the Polish education system follows the objectives of the Bologna Process and offers programs from both public and private institutions, providing three types of degrees: Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate. The academic year is divided into winter and spring semesters, running from October to June, and you can choose to study full-time or part-time.

Master Degree

In Poland, a Master's degree or magister program typically lasts around two years and awards 90-120 ECTS credits. Upon completion of the Master's degree, you become eligible to pursue doctoral studies. The teaching methods in Master's education in Poland involve a combination of group sessions, independent study, individual assignments, and practical laboratory work, if allowed by the discipline. There is a wide range of Master's programs taught in English available in Poland. To complete your Master's, you will be required to defend your written thesis orally.
