In Estonia, you will be living in a highly connected society where almost everywhere offers free wireless Wi-Fi. Many daily activities in Estonia have been made easier with various technological solutions: register a company in as little as 18 minutes, buy a movie ticket with your mobile phone app, park your car with your phone, enroll in online courses, etc. Estonia is known as Europe's Silicon Valley and has a strong start-up community.
Higher education in this small EU country has a good value with relatively low tuition fees, living expenses, and various scholarships for international students. As a student in Estonia, you can take advantage of discounts and special offers created especially for full-time students. Additionally, international students can combine their education with part-time or full-time work to earn extra income to cover living expenses.
Student life in Estonia is filled with events and activities. There are many organizations and events that help foreign students to get accustomed to Estonian life and build a social network in the country. They organize various activities such as trips, company visits, social gatherings, photo contests, bike rides, quiz tournaments, etc., for international students.
At the beginning of each academic year, universities typically organize a special event for all new international students to provide practical information about education and life in Estonia. This way, new students will get to know their student peers, teachers, faculties, staff, university buildings, and the city they will start studying in.
There are various options to arrange accommodation, which vary from one university to another. This is because some universities provide student dormitories/hostels while others do not. Accommodation costs depend on location, accommodation quality, and season, but monthly prices generally range from 150-250 € in dormitories to 300-550 € in private apartments.
Students can enjoy a comfortable life with approximately 300 € per month for food and drink. Each university also has its own cafeteria that offers nice meals at reasonable prices. Daily specials at pubs and cafes cost around 4-6 €

In Tartu, local public transportation costs 7.67 € per month with a student card, and a single ticket for a student costs 0.51 € (2 € on the bus). Most universities are within short walking distance of everything needed (supermarkets, cafes, stores, pharmacies, gym, etc.).
Tartu has a bike-sharing system with 750 bikes (510 electric, 240 regular) at 69 stations throughout the city. Membership prices are 30€ (annual membership), 10€ (weekly membership), and 5€ (daily membership). All memberships include unlimited 60-minute trips, and the cost of each additional 60-minute interval is 1 €.
